Best Commercial Infrared Sauna for Gyms, Spas, Clinics and Recovery Centers

Matt Justice

What is the best commercial sauna for a gym, med spa, chiropractic office, recovery center, float facility or wellness business?

After personally testing more than 40 infrared sauna models over the last seven or eight years, the Sunlighten Amplify V2 is the best commercial-grade prefab infrared sauna I have tested so far.

That does not mean it is the best sauna for every homeowner or every commercial facility. Large locker rooms and high-capacity public installations may need something bigger or custom-built. But for a business offering private sauna appointments, wellness packages or premium membership benefits, the Amplify V2 has an unusually strong combination of durability, protected heater placement, heat performance and premium appearance.

It is heavy, expensive and more cumbersome to assemble than many residential infrared saunas. For commercial use, however, several of those disadvantages become evidence of why it may survive repeated customer traffic better than lighter alternatives.

Why a Commercial Sauna Requires a Different Standard

A residential sauna may be used three or four times per week by people who paid for it, own it and want it to last.

Put that same sauna inside a gym, med spa, recovery center or wellness business and it could be used 5, 10 or 15 times in a single day. Customers may drop onto the bench, pull on the door, spill water, step on delicate components and lean against areas they should not.

Eventually, somebody will do something the manufacturer and business owner never anticipated.

That is why the best infrared sauna for commercial use is not necessarily the same sauna I would recommend for a spare bedroom, basement or home gym.

For commercial use, I want:

  • Rigid, substantial cabinetry
  • A bench that will not bow or flex
  • Heavy-duty door and hinge hardware
  • Protected heaters
  • A floor that can withstand repeated traffic
  • Strong, predictable heat performance
  • Good heat retention between appointments
  • A premium appearance for paying customers
  • A manufacturer that specifically addresses commercial use in its warranty

The Sunlighten Amplify V2 stands out in nearly all of these areas.

Built for Repeated Commercial Use

The first thing that separates the Amplify V2 from many residential infrared saunas is its overall construction. It weighs more than 500 pounds, and nearly every component feels substantial.

The eucalyptus cabinet is attractive, but the more important difference for a commercial buyer is what is underneath the appearance. The panels are thick, rigid and extremely well built. The sauna has solid walls, a solid roof and a solid floor. Once the locking hardware pulls everything together, the cabinet feels more like a permanent installation than a lightweight kit.

This is not an inexpensive home sauna that feels as though it may loosen every time someone suddenly pulls open the door.

The packaging was also the best I have encountered on a sauna shipment. Every major component was carefully wrapped and protected. That matters because freight damage is a common problem when large wood panels, electronics, heaters and a massive glass door pass through multiple hands before reaching a business.

An Exceptionally Strong Sauna Bench

Sauna reviews rarely spend much time discussing the bench unless it is uncomfortable or something is wrong with it. In a commercial environment, however, the bench becomes a potential failure point.

Customers may not lower themselves carefully. They may drop onto it, stand on it or place most of their weight in one area.

When we assembled the Amplify V2, the bench showed virtually no flex or movement. I joked that you could probably park a truck on it. Although that was obviously an exaggeration, the bench feels considerably more substantial than the thinner benches found in many residential sauna kits.

That difference could become extremely important after thousands of paid sessions.

Heavy Double-Pane Glass and Commercial-Grade Hinges

The sauna door will be opened and closed during every customer visit, making it one of the most frequently used components in the entire cabinet.

The Amplify V2 has a heavy double-pane glass door and substantial hinge hardware. The double-pane design helps retain heat, while the hinges appear appropriately sized to support the weight of the door through repeated use.

A touchscreen or audio system will not save a commercial installation if the door begins sagging, shifting or developing gaps around the edges. Strong door construction may not sound exciting in a brochure, but it is exactly what I want to see in a business installation.

A Durable Floor Without Sacrificing Lower-Body Heat

For home use, I normally pay close attention to whether an infrared sauna includes a floor heater. Direct heat around the legs and feet can make a major difference in the overall experience.

Commercial use changes that calculation.

Many infrared saunas place a relatively delicate heater underneath a thin wooden floor grate. That can work well in a home, but it introduces another failure point when customers step on it throughout the day. If the grate or heater becomes damaged, the business has more than a cosmetic problem.

The Amplify V2 avoids that issue because it does not use a conventional heater beneath the floor. Instead, its lower heaters are positioned at approximately 45-degree angles and project infrared heat toward the lower legs.

I initially questioned whether this design would provide enough lower-body coverage. After using it, the coverage was much better than I expected and the sauna produced a strong, satisfying sweat.

For commercial use, this arrangement offers an important combination:

  • A solid floor that can withstand customer traffic
  • No fragile floor heater for customers to crack or damage
  • Direct infrared coverage around the lower legs
  • Strong overall heat performance

The other heaters are recessed into the walls and protected by substantial guards. Customers can use the sauna without needing to understand where every delicate component is located.

A well-designed commercial sauna should protect itself from the customer as much as reasonably possible.

Predictable Heat for Back-to-Back Appointments

A homeowner can wait another 20 minutes if a sauna is not ready. A paying customer with a 3:00 appointment expects it to be ready at 3:00.

The Amplify V2 became legitimately hot after it was assembled and properly burned in. It has plenty of heater power and produced a strong full-body sweat in a reasonable amount of time.

The larger carbon heaters provide far-infrared heat, while the additional full-spectrum emitters increase intensity around the body. The control panel allows the rear far-infrared heaters and front full-spectrum emitters to be adjusted separately.

Its solid walls, insulated construction, solid roof, solid floor and double-pane door also help the cabinet retain heat. That can make appointment scheduling, preheating, cleaning and session turnover easier to manage throughout the day.

It Looks Appropriate in a Premium Wellness Business

Durability is essential, but the customer experience also matters.

If a business charges for individual sauna appointments, bundles sauna with other treatments or includes it in a premium membership, the equipment should look and feel valuable.

The Amplify V2 has eucalyptus cabinetry, a large glass door, attractive interior lighting, chromotherapy and an integrated audio system. It photographs well and makes a strong first impression when someone enters the room.

It does not look like an inexpensive home sauna placed in the corner of a business as an afterthought.

That makes it a strong candidate for:

  • Med spas
  • Chiropractic and physical therapy offices
  • Recovery centers
  • Float tank facilities
  • Private gyms and fitness studios
  • Hotels and luxury apartment communities
  • Executive wellness facilities
  • Appointment-based sauna studios
  • Other health and wellness businesses

Sunlighten also offers standalone red light therapy equipment, which may allow some businesses to build multiple services or recovery packages around the same customer base.

Installation Is More Difficult Than a Typical Home Sauna

The Amplify V2 is not especially easy to assemble or reposition.

The panels are heavy. The roof wiring requires removing and reinstalling approximately 30 screws, and the front wall heaters require a right-angle drill attachment because a conventional screwdriver does not fit behind the mounting brackets.

We assembled our unit on an epoxy-coated garage floor and damaged part of the coating while moving it. Once this sauna is assembled, it does not want to slide casually across the room.

Choose its location before installation begins. For a commercial installation, I would strongly consider professional installation or use a competent handyman with several capable people available.

For a homeowner who moves frequently, the weight may be a disadvantage. For a business planning to install the sauna once and leave it in place for years, it becomes a sign of substantial construction.

Buy once, cry once. Installation difficulty creates a one-day problem. A lightweight sauna that begins wearing out under customer traffic can create an ongoing business problem.

Electrical, Placement and Water Clearances

A self-contained infrared sauna may be simpler to add to an existing business than a traditional sauna or steam room. It generally does not require building an entire wet room, installing a floor drain or managing the level of moisture produced by steam.

That does not mean it can be placed anywhere or plugged into any available outlet.

Before ordering, confirm:

  • Dedicated electrical circuit requirements
  • Outlet type and placement
  • Ventilation and required clearances
  • Available installation and service access
  • Floor protection
  • Local building and health regulations
  • Commercial insurance requirements
  • Cleaning and sanitation procedures

At the time of my review, Sunlighten’s warranty language required at least five feet of separation from water or vapor sources such as showers, bathtubs and cold plunges. This can be especially important for float centers, med spas and contrast-therapy facilities.

Requirements and warranty terms can change. Tell Sunlighten exactly how you intend to use the sauna and confirm all electrical, placement and commercial warranty requirements in writing before ordering.

Confirm the Commercial Sauna Warranty

Never assume that a residential sauna warranty automatically covers paid customer use.

At the time this review was recorded, Sunlighten published separate commercial warranty coverage for its cabin saunas, including the Amplify. The published commercial terms listed five years of coverage for the cabinetry and heaters and one year for the controls, glass door and audio system.

Because manufacturers can revise warranty terms, request a current copy and describe your intended usage honestly. Confirm how many daily sessions you anticipate, where the sauna will be installed and whether customers will pay for access.

Is a Two-Person Sauna Large Enough for Commercial Use?

The Amplify V2 is categorized as a two-person sauna, but many businesses may find it easier to operate as a premium private session for one customer at a time.

Private appointments simplify scheduling and cleaning while allowing the business to sell a more controlled wellness experience.

This is not the right sauna for a large public locker room where multiple people will constantly enter and exit. That type of use may call for a larger model or a custom-built traditional or infrared sauna engineered for simultaneous public use.

The Amplify V2 makes the most sense when a business:

  • Operates primarily by appointment
  • Offers private sauna sessions
  • Bundles sauna with treatments or recovery services
  • Includes sauna access in a premium membership
  • Wants a controlled, high-end amenity in a relatively small footprint

Calculate the Complete Commercial Sauna Cost

The true cost of a commercial sauna is higher than the advertised price of the cabinet.

Your budget may also need to cover:

  • Freight and delivery
  • Professional assembly
  • Electrical work
  • Room preparation
  • Floor protection
  • Towels and laundry
  • Cleaning supplies
  • Insurance
  • Maintenance and repairs
  • Scheduling or booking software
  • Staff time between sessions

Next, decide how the sauna will generate or support revenue. A business might charge per session, sell multi-session packages, create a sauna membership, add it to a premium service tier or bundle it with treatments already being offered.

Use conservative projections. Do not assume the sauna will be fully booked immediately. If the business already serves customers interested in fitness, recovery, relaxation, detoxification, longevity or general wellness, an infrared sauna may create another service within a relatively small footprint.

Is the Sunlighten Amplify V2 the Best Commercial Sauna?

Based on the infrared saunas I have personally received, assembled and tested, the Sunlighten Amplify V2 is currently my choice for the best commercial-grade prefab infrared sauna.

Its strongest commercial features include:

  • More than 500 pounds of substantial construction
  • Solid walls, roof and floor
  • An oversized bench with virtually no flex
  • Heavy-duty hinges
  • A double-pane glass door
  • Protected, recessed heaters
  • No fragile heater beneath the customer’s feet
  • Strong lower-body coverage
  • Excellent heat retention
  • Strong sweat performance
  • Premium cabinetry and interior presentation
  • Published commercial warranty coverage at the time of review

It is not cheap, lightweight or particularly convenient to assemble. For many homeowners, it may be overkill. For commercial use, overkill may be exactly what you want.

If you operate a gym, med spa, clinic, recovery center, float facility, hotel or wellness business, the Amplify V2 deserves serious consideration.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best commercial infrared sauna?

Of the more than 40 infrared sauna models I have personally tested, the Sunlighten Amplify V2 is my current choice for the best commercial-grade prefab infrared sauna. Its rigid construction, strong bench, heavy double-pane door, protected heaters, heat retention and premium appearance make it especially compelling for appointment-based commercial use.

What should I look for in a commercial sauna?

Prioritize cabinet strength, bench durability, door and hinge quality, protected heaters, floor durability, heat retention, electrical requirements, cleanability and written commercial warranty coverage. The best residential sauna is not automatically suitable for repeated paid customer use.

Can a residential infrared sauna be used commercially?

Possibly, but you should never assume that residential warranty coverage applies to commercial use. Tell the manufacturer how the sauna will be used and obtain the applicable warranty terms in writing before purchasing.

Is the Sunlighten Amplify V2 suitable for a gym or spa?

It can be a strong option for private sessions, wellness packages or premium membership access. A busy public locker room requiring higher simultaneous capacity may need a larger or custom-built sauna.

Does a commercial infrared sauna need a dedicated circuit?

Many larger infrared saunas require an appropriate dedicated electrical circuit. Confirm the current electrical specifications with the manufacturer and have a qualified electrician evaluate the installation before ordering.

How much does a commercial sauna cost to operate?

The total cost includes more than the sauna itself. Budget for freight, installation, electrical work, room preparation, cleaning, laundry, insurance, maintenance, scheduling software and staff time. Operating costs and revenue potential depend on local utility rates, session volume and pricing.
